this is a no frills place with the ambiance and decor that only a road house could provide. the walls are decorated with an extensive collection of license plates, memorabilia and framed reviews/articles about the restaurant. you walk up to the counter, you order your meal and pay for it, you pour your own drink, then you wait to retrieve your meal and seat yourself at a table. we ate indoors since the few tables on the front porch were full. the line of folks waiting to order was just about out the front door. luckily for us, when we arrived only a few people were on line and our food was ready with in minutes.
the reason for heading here was barbeque, southern style barbeque to be exact and if you know anything about it, that means pulled pork. so i chose to have a pulled pork sandwich with the sweet dixie mild sauce and slaw. darry chose a half slab of spare ribs with pit master red sauce, fries (freshly cut, not frozen) and slaw. as much as i enjoyed my dinner, i have come to the conclusion that southern style pulled pork just isn't all that exciting to me. it was prepared well, not at all greasy like some can be and the pork was not reduced to strings either-it was gently pulled apart leaving some chunks large and others small. darry cleaned his plate and from my side of the table, the ribs looked to be moist and juicy not at all dry or leathery.
dinner was reasonably priced, with a tip it came to $26. so if you find yourself craving southern style bbq, make the trip out to martins and enjoy the scenery, indoors and out!
